i've had many a conversation with these 3 little girls about the location of our house. days like yesterday, when we went on an indian adventure through the woods, or fishing in the pond, or when they play all day in their fort house, or when their dad tells them he bought an extra deer stand to take them hunting...they proclaim their undying love for our rural life. a lot of the other times however, they complain that we don't have neighbors, that they hate driving on the highway to get anywhere. one day marley declared our grandparent's had the perfect life--right around the corner from a grocery store, the library, and a video store. i tend to think they have the perfect life--plenty of hills and woods to roam, and few distractions to stifle their imaginations.
Such beautiful girls! I think you're right about where you live...they do have the life. They'll appreciate that someday.
Posted by: Deb at October 26, 2004 03:03 PMi've heard similar complaints from my cousin. when he was in grade school the family moved to queen creek - nothing but fields and stop signs for miles. the closest grocery store (aside from the two circle k's in town) was about fifteen miles away. he complained about not having anything to do...
now a basha's and burger king are going in less than a mile from their house, and they took out some of an orange grove to put in the complex. it makes me want to cry.
keep "distracting" them with nature, freedom, and running around barefoot in soft grass. they'll remember when they're older.
(and take it in for yourself, too!)
Posted by: steph at October 26, 2004 04:10 PMdeb. i think they will appreciate it when they're older, and i actually don't mind their comments about disliking it at times...i actually identify with them. you can't have everything at once.
steph. i have such little tolerance when they say they are bored, because i think: you have so much dirt and grass and woods, how could you possibly be bored? it's sad to hear about burger king moving in. space like this is rare. i will try to love it fully while i have it. thanks.

My goodness, is it really still warm enough there to be wearing bathing suits and spray eachother with the hose?!
