1. i've had the hiccups for around a year and a half now. i don't mean every second of the day, but between 3 and 8 times a day i get the hiccups. where does this come from? i can't say i want them to go, i just wonder what made them choose me to be such a dear friend. i think hiccups are cute, like i think having a hoarse voice is cute, or a lisp. i had a crush on my english teacher in high school because of the way his lisp sounded when he read aloud to us. so i love my hiccups, i just hope there's nothing wrong with me.
2. i have issues with sneezing, and i blame them entirely on my sister lica. she once told me that in colombia they say "health" the first time you sneeze, "wealth" the second time, and "love" the third time. i only ever sneeze twice. it drives me nuts. i want to get to "love". i tell myself that i can't sneeze the third time because i already have enough love, but i still want that third sneeze. i look at the sun to make myself sneeze, but still i only get to number 2.
3. my laugh right now concerns me the most. i used to have a sort of "ha ha" chuckle. then i somehow replaced it with a dreadful donkey laugh. it sounded terrible, and i couldn't help it. but now the worst thing has happened to my laugh, it's become a snort. i can't laugh anymore without snorting. my sister jamie has a beautiful friend named kat who is a snorter. somehow it's really cute on her, probably because she's so cute. the one time i sat in a movie theater with kat, she snorted during all the quiet moments when no one else was laughing. it was loud and it made other people laugh, which just made her snort all the more. i don't think my snorting is so cute.
Posted by red clay at December 8, 2004 10:00 PM | TrackBackmy husband's cousin had hiccups for 3 weeks straight...non-stop. He went to the hospital because he thought there was something seriously wrong. They said, "Nothing's wrong. Just hiccups." So I don't think you have to worry!
Posted by: Courtney at December 9, 2004 03:05 AMmy little sister has the snort laugh too--i think its kinda fun to have a distinctive laugh.
Posted by: anna at December 9, 2004 03:24 AMNow I feel real fortunate.
I always sneeze in threes!
Take Care
Michael
I'll be wishing you a third sneeze. After reading this, I was making coffee and I sneezed and I waited for the third one to come but it ended at two as well. Oh well! lol I was thinking about your post.
Posted by: Carla at December 9, 2004 10:30 AMi've done a little bit of research on hiccups and sneezing. i think and believe that the two are connected. i thought hiccups were caused by a lack of oxygen and sneezing your heart stops. but i don't think it's serious. oh well
Posted by: cat at December 9, 2004 12:20 PMcourtney. thanks. i'm not sooo worried, but still, it makes me wonder. i actually missed my hiccups when they left me for a couple days.
anna. i do too. i like it better on other people though, so i can laugh at their laugh.
michael. you are fortunate.
carla. thanks. if i get a third sneeze, i'll know it's from you.
cat. i thought that hiccups had something to do with breathing too, but i'm not so sure. i actually haven't researched it. maybe i should. thanks for the comment!
You make me smile. Thank you, you hiccuping, sneezing, laughing, wonderful person!
By the way, I hope that third sneeze happens soon.
Posted by: Deb at December 13, 2004 11:32 AMI've wondered about hiccups. What would happen if, say, Barbra Streisand got a case just before she went on stage?
I found an interesting article on hiccups and thought I'd share:

Posted by: Jeanette at December 13, 2004 11:02 PMdeb. thanks much. i wouldn't mind for it to happen soon myself. i've been sneezing lately, but no thirds.
jeanette. thanks for the article it was interesting, although it made hiccuping sound more serious than i wanted. i prefer to think i swallow incorrectly...but that doesn't explain the hiccup i have first thing in the morning after opening my eyes. and yes, it would be unfortunate for barbara. tonight i was trying to talk to a woman at kinkos through my hiccups.
